The Thompson family has enjoyed a proud and successful tradition in the painting industry since the turn of the century. Throughout the Bay Area they are well known for their high quality work and technical knowledge in the painting field. J & R Thompson Painting is an extension of this family tradition.

J. Thompson Painting was started in 1993 by Jeff Thompson. Jeff began his career with W.G. Thompson Painting, one of the largest painting firms in Northern California. After advancing to foreman, Jeff decided to venture toward the residential sector of the painting industry. This decision became the origin for starting J. Thompson Painting. In 1995 Robert E. Thompson joined his nephew Jeff in developing an efficient, reliable and high quality painting company. From this union J & R Thompson Painting evolved. Robert has learned the painting industry through his grass roots as a co-owner of W.G. Thompson Painting. He has served as painter, foreman, superintendent and estimator in his 28 years at W.G. Thompson. He was very instrumental in the successful commercial painting projects in San Francisco. These include the Transamerica Building, Hyatt Regency Hotel, the Embarcadero high-rise commercial / office complex: Buildings One, Two and Three.

James A. Thompson, also co-owner of W.G. Thompson, has had a long career in the painting industry. He has now joined his son Jeff and his brother Bob to add his knowledge, experience and resources to J&R Thompson Painting Company. Jim has personally run and superintended some of the largest and most difficult paint jobs in California. Some of theses include Sherton Palace Remodel, Moscone Center, Candle Stick Park and both the San Francisco and Oakland airport remodels. Another added plus is the addition of Jim’s son Jim Jr.. Jim Jr. has the ability and experience to run large crews and mange difficult jobs.

For the past 20 years, almost all of the residential and the majority of commercial painting projects have been awarded to non-union painting companies. The Thompson clan (Scottish Decent) has united together in the typical Thompson tradition to bring a professional painting firm to compete in this portion of the industry. Their many years in the painting field have provided them with the knowledge, experience and management abilities that give their customers the secure knowledge that their projects will be completed in a timely and professional manner.
